What the...
So Lady Gaga wears meat dresses and Paris fashion week designer's display their clothes on cardboard now - are clothes not made with fabric anymore?
I mean I realize I've been a bit out of the couture loop but seriously?!
![Meanwhile, At Paris Fashion Week of the Day: From Maison Martin Margiela’s Spring/Summer 2011 line, introduced as “men’s wardrobe meets the woman’s body.”
Early reports indicate that no one in attendance shouted “you’re fucking with us, right?” despite being an entirely legitimate thing to shout given that they must be.

The above ridiculousness is from Maison Martin Margiela's Spring/Summer 2011 collection.
A friend of mine just posted a comment on the subjectivity of it all but how it has no relation to the attractiveness of the piece. It's so true. Fashion is art and art is expression and expression is subjective and so forth, but at the end of the day, the fashion industry is about fashion trends that will eventually trickle down from haute couture to the masses - and last time I checked, the masses don't wear cardboard clothes or meat dresses.
What happened to designers with a purpose? All the classic legendary designers began with practicality that revolutionized the industry. Coco Chanel was famous for making her clothes light and easy-to-wear yet nonetheless chic during a time when women wore the most uncomfortable pieces and had to work during the war. Salvatore Ferragamo made comfortable yet elegant shoes. Louis Vuitton made durable yet lightweight and airtight luggage for travel. Burberry focused on durable waterproof outdoor attire. You get the point.
Again...Seriously?
... you're right... it looks awful...
ReplyDeleteI realize that fashion, like art is somewhat subjective... but seriously... a meat dress lady gaga? this is not compelling or attractive at all...
each holiday season, we keep getting retail reports that clothing stores sales are down... you know what, I don't think its just that the consumer isn't buying, I think the designs are not compelling... the quality is shoddy... and what we're left with is a crappy value proposition....
I totally agree! Your comment inspired me, I actually added a part to the post and mentioned you, check it out.
